What is alveolar pore?

Alveolar pore, also known as the pore of Kohn, is a small opening present in the walls of the alveoli (tiny air sacs present in the lungs). These pores allow the movement of air and gas between adjacent alveoli, allowing equalization of pressure and effective gas exchange. They also facilitate the distribution of air to areas that may be obstructed by foreign objects, such as mucus or inflammation. Alveolar pores are important for optimizing respiratory functions and maintaining lung health. However, their dysfunction or obstructed airways can lead to respiratory diseases, such as emphysema and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).
